Online technical thesaurus

I developed TechTesaurus, an online technical thesaurus designed as a comprehensive reference for technical terminology. This project serves translators, engineers, IT professionals, students, and anyone working with specialized technical documentation. Rather than functioning as a standard dictionary, TechTesaurus provides precise definitions, contextual explanations, and bilingual support for terms across multiple disciplines, including information technology, engineering, energy efficiency, construction, and scientific domains.

At its core, TechTesaurus is a living glossary that helps professionals navigate complex technical language with ease. The platform offers a searchable interface where users can find terms alphabetically or search directly. Each entry includes accurate translations between Ukrainian and English, clear definitions, and contextual examples. This makes it especially valuable for translators and professionals who require exact terminology for technical reports, documentation, research, and communication within international teams.

To make the site manageable for the client and easy to update over time, I implemented a custom WordPress theme tailored to the project’s specific needs. The architecture was designed for flexibility, allowing administrators to add, edit, and organize entries with custom fields and taxonomy systems. For content management, I integrated Advanced Custom Fields Pro (ACF Pro) to provide a user-friendly interface for editing term definitions, translations, usage examples, and categorization.

A key feature of TechTesaurus is a React-based filter for searching technical terms and concepts, which allows users to quickly narrow down results by category, language, or keyword. This interactive filtering system improves usability and significantly speeds up finding relevant terms, especially in large and complex databases.

Yoast SEO was implemented to improve visibility in search engines. Each term page includes structured metadata and semantic markup, making it easier for users to discover relevant content via organic search. SEO optimization was crucial given the site’s role as a knowledge resource.

The platform features an intuitive browsing experience. Users can explore the thesaurus by letter, use a search bar for quick lookup, and access recently added or updated terms. Performance and responsiveness were optimized to ensure fast loading times across devices, from desktops to mobile screens. The responsive design guarantees a smooth and consistent experience for all users.

Beyond simple definitions, TechTesaurus emphasizes context and accuracy. Entries include detailed explanations of terms within their technical usage, reducing ambiguity in professional communication. The combination of a custom theme, ACF Pro, React filter, and Yoast SEO results in a knowledge-driven platform that is user-friendly, scalable, and highly effective.
